Ward Acres

Ward Acres is a beautiful park that can be found in New Rochelle, NY. Located in the northern region in the city of New Rochelle, Ward Acres is a historic park that offers people an amazing natural experience.

The Land was donated to the city of New Rochelle in the mid 1950s by the Ward family so that the city could build an elementary school as well as designate a large portion for parkland. Inside the park there are different trails and fields that make spending an afternoon at Ward Acres very enjoyable.

There are a few different entrances to the park but the main entrance located adjacent to the elementary school has a large map detailing the different trails that can be hiked, as well as fields that are perfect for picnics and relaxation.

As you walk through the park, you cant help but see remnants of the original Ward family farm that was once on the land. There are horse tombstones scattered about as well as old stone walls seperating fields from one another.

Park goers can also see the original Ward family barn that is still on the property today. Although it is in sad shape now, it still gives onlookers a flash back to what it looked like at the turn of the 19th century.

However, there is one more aspect of the park that is a very popular one. Ward Acres has a dog park that has 3 acres of fenced in field to allow your dog to run free and have fun without the worry of he or she running away.

Park goers are allowed to walk their dogs wherever they please in the park, however dogs must be on a leash if not in the fenced in region.

So take an afternoon trip to ward acres and bask in history, mother nature, and companionship of man's best friend.
